Company Background
As a disabled person and a user of services I have experience the bad side of using the typical homecare organisation. Whilst at University, I first became a user of services, I decided it was time to leave my family home, become independent and pursue my goal of becoming a Lawyer.
I accessed the Independent Living Fund & a Direct Payment which then afforded me the opportunity to become an employer.
I met with many Private Companies to discuss the service I required and it became very apparent that I would have to fit into to the service they were providing rather than the service being tailored to my needs which was the opposite of what I had imagined. I was told what time they would arrive, when they would leave, what they won’t do, there was no choice in staff and it seemed that the whole point of independent living was just ignored. It appeared to me the private sector was providing services similar to that of council services.
I was lucky that I managed to employ some very good PA’s but I often wondered about the people who couldn’t manage to self employ and how would they would cope in managing staff and dealing with difficult situations i.e. Recruitment and selection, PAYE, contingency in an emergency & employment disputes. It was then that I decided to form Mochridhe and offer a service that promoted; Choice, Control & Flexibility. Due to my experience I was determined to provide a service that would change the lives of disabled people by promoting true independent living by taking an Inclusive living approach.
